After nearly 30 months living with Covid, in April 2022 National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University launched a new herbal formula for treating Covid, named “Jing Guan Fang” (淨冠方, “formula for cleansing coronavirus”). Based on clinical experience of treating SARS patients, the formula is said to suppress symptoms caused by Covid, which, according to the theory of Chinese medicine, resembles SARS (Ping et al. ; Hsu and Mazzetta). Although already a prescribed medicine in Taiwan, the research team has clearly stated that Jing Guan Fang is not a replacement for vaccines. However, as a therapeutic means to mitigate clinical harm, it can be used for the prevention of Covid and other airborne infectious diseases.
